Marino's 2 Year Portraits

Marino and I recently met up with Kari Merkel at Glen Echo Park to take some pictures of Marino in honor of his 2nd birthday. Unfortunately, Marino was pretty disagreeable, but Kari did a great job getting some good shots of him. I was amazed when I saw these at how grown up he looks!

5 on Friday

As always, here are 5 special reasons I am loving my boy this week:

5. Proof my child loves attention: Tuesday he was falling asleep in my lap, drinking a bottle and I was surfing the web. He reached out, pulled my chin towards him and said "Mommy, look at me!" with half closed eyes.

4. Saturday I got some balloons to use at his 2 year photo session (which he was entirely uncooperative for). By Sunday the balloons were on the floor. Marino put them in his rocking chair and said "Bah loons, sit dere. What's that? You want tvs? Wonder Pets? No, sass? Ok." and handed me the remote to turn on the tv for the balloons:)

3. The other day I let him open a door alone and he was very pleased with himself. 10 minutes later we were walking towards another door and he said, "Mommy? More open door?" complete with the sign for "more"!

2. The other day we came very close to a squirrel while walking into daycare. Of course, Marino was so excited. The squirrel was eating an acorn and he said "Squirrel is hungry!"

1. Marino hasn't been sleeping well - he's got a cough that's been keeping him up. The other night we were up at 3am and he was delirious. He said "Mommy, spider!" I said "Where?" and he said "I see it!". I said, "Where is the spider?" and he said "in head." :)

5 on Friday

As always, here are 5 special reasons I am loving my boy this week:

5. The funniest thing I heard Marino say this week was "Ishmael." Ishmael is one of Evan's best friends and he was over on Wednesday helping Evan move a couch. Marino kept trying to get his attention and calling "Ish......maaaaaal" - it was adorable!

4. Wednesday I had to go to daycare during the day to bring Marino some allergy medicine. Unfortunately, it was right before nap time and he was a mess when I had to leave (as soon as he saw me, he said "bye bye everybody" thinking we were leaving). The director emailed me to tell me he calmed down when I left but he still didn't want to sleep. One of the nurses asked him what happened to his sleep and he said "it's gone."

3. Marino was looking at a book of dinosaurs the other day. One dinosaur was peeking out from behind a tree and Marino pointed to him and said "dinosaur get you." I thought that was clever that he deduced the dinosaur was stalking it's prey.

2. I love pretend play! This morning in the car, Marino was chatting with Elmo. He said "Elmo, want some goldfish?" He then replied "OK, yeah. Goldfish yum!" Elmo was also putting his hands up and saying "Yay, Ish...mael" (I think that is Marino's new favorite word).

1. One of the joys of my life is playing "get you" (aka hide and go seek) with my boy. No matter where I "hide" and how much he knows I'm going to jump out and scare him, he always screams, puts his hands up like he's terrified and laughs uncontrollably and then asks for more.

More Cousins!

Sunday evening, Evan's cousin Ahmad and his family were visiting from North Carolina so we went over to his mom's house for a visit. Marino had such a great time playing with all the big kids. We all went over to the playground and had a blast! I know I say it all the time, but Marino is so lucky to have so many friends and family to visit with on a regular basis!

Marino actually enjoyed the swings for the first time this year! Usually as soon as we sit him down he says "I'm scared."

He loves to slide!
Talking to Ahmad about ice...he was obsessed with playing with the ice.

Visiting with the Cousins

Marino is so lucky that he has so many friends and family nearby to play with! On Sunday we got a chance to visit with my cousin Miranda and her daughter Pacey, and my cousin Blair and her three girls: Erica, Jamea and Kiara.
Pacey and Marino pretending to go "night night"...pretending being the operative word, since neither took a nap the whole day.

Marino and all the girl cousins: Pacey, Jamea, Erica and Kiara
Big Pacey hugs!

Pacey being silly

Jumping in circles...they took this pretty seriously

Marino and Pacey kept going in the (dark) bathroom, shutting the door, and screaming. I guess they liked the echo? Who knows what goes on in the mind of a toddler, but its so fun to watch them play together!

Last Swim Class

Marino and I have been going to Aquatots swim class for the past 6 weeks. Sunday was our last class and Daddy joined us for the fun. The first class, Marino was really nervous and asked to eat the whole class (trying to get us to leave). By the second class, he loved it! My plan is to keep him swimming year round so he doesn't get afraid every season.

Here he is working on blowing bubbles with Daddy.

Practicing kicking and "scoop scoop"ing his arms
His favorite part of swimming - jumping into the water
Love love this picture!

Sydney's 2nd Birthday Party

On Saturday, we went to our buddy Sydney's 2nd birthday party. Sydney is such a sweetie and I just love her! We had a great time at the party.

Here's Marino in the bouncy house, which he started calling "Bumpy's House." You should have seen the look on his face when they deflated it. It was very hot (90+) so if he looks red, that's why!

Loving it! This little boy kept intentionally falling on Marino and Marino thought that was just the greatest fun ever!
Does he look hot?

Next birthday party will be Marino's! I can't believe my baby is becoming a little boy. It's definitely bittersweet.
